PSLE Head Start Programme Highlights

 



 

English

For P6 (2021) students

The English Head Start programme for primary 6 is designed to guide students to excel and score well in all sections of the examinations. Your child will be exposed to skills-based modules in Composition and Comprehension and language proficiency segments in grammar especially in synthesis and transformation.

In preparation for the Oral examination, your child will be given tips on how to speak confidently in order to impress the examiner. Your child will also learn about the common errors to avoid and how to tackle challenging questions in all sections of the examinations.

This is an ideal programme for students to learn how to focus and strategise on key aspects of the English examination. 

Programme Highlights

Students learn how to do well in the Comprehension and Composition sections which are two of the most important sections in the English paper with the largest amount of marks dedicated to them. Students will also learn the right vs wrong ways of clue sourcing when answering Comprehension questions.

The course exposes students to many high quality writing samples to learn from models of good writing, which are used to highlight key skills to improve their writing. Students will also learn techniques that will help them ace the most challenging Synthesis and Transformation of sentences section of the exam paper and how to answer key types of grammar Multiple Choice Questions sections.   

Students will actively learn tips to help students excel in oral communication as well as go through key exam skills and learn how to apply the different exam-techniques taught. 

Components covered:

  • Comprehension 
    • Understand through guided steps the nature of clue sourcing
    • How to identify simple techniques that prevent losing marks 
    • Structuring answers to answer questions accurately 
  • Composition 
    • Learn a variety of writing techniques that make the stories more unusual and engaging (important for scoring on higher bands) 
    • Understand what examiners are looking for in various aspects.
    • Plot planning, scene setting, character development, crafting of conclusions and creating interesting stories based on the pictures provided 
  • Grammar 
    • Find the right way to tackle challenging questions 
    • Learn the grammar rules in a clear way
  • Synthesis and Transformation 
    • Be aware of the different rules to follow, and how to apply these to specific types of questions
  • Oral Examination 
    • Receive tips on how to structure answers
    • Knowing what questions to expect and how to prepare for them
    • How to express personal opinions (required in the oral exams) 

Mathematics

For P6 (2021) students

The P6 Maths Head Start programme provides your child with a substantial leg up for the new topics that will be introduced in Primary 6. Your child will be exposed to noteworthy questions from past year preliminary examinations and PSLE.

Programme Highlights

Your child will also learn to master question-answering techniques, identify and manage question types, and tackle common mistakes. 

Topics covered include:

  • Algebra
  • Circles
  • Managing word problems

Science

For P6 (2021) students

The Science PSLE Prep programme gives your child a strong head start for new P6 topics. An investigative question underpins each new topic, linking scientific concepts to real-life scenarios. 

Experiment videos allow your child to witness concepts in action and exposure to commonly-asked questions build up confidence to tackle the new topics. Your child will also learn to master answering techniques for experiment-based questions.

Programme Highlights

Build an early foundation in the fundamental knowledge. Students will investigate scientific concepts through experiment videos, and master answering techniques for experiment-based questions. Students will also revise selected Lower Block topics.

Topics covered include:

  • Sources and Forms of Energy 
  • Energy and the Sun 
  • Forces 
  • Environmental Interactions 
  • Revision of Lower Block Topics 
  • Answering Techniques for Experiment-based Questions
