Frequently Asked Questions

1. Who can join this programme?

Students who are in Secondary 2 or 3 in 2024 are welcome to join this programme.

Students who are in Secondary 1 in 2024 should join our Prepping Right for Secondary programmes or Secondary 1 Discovery Camp to get a headstart for Secondary 1.

2. My child signed up for this programme last year, can he/she attend again?

Students who took this programme previously should not take this programme again as the material will be repeated.

3. Are these materials unique?

For Mastering the Expository Writing at Lower Sec programme, the programme covers the parts of writing an expository essay that students usually find challenging — how to elaborate and how to make the essay unique so that the essay does not seem templated and like every other student's essay. We will teach very specific techniques that they can apply in their writing that we have not covered in the core programme.

For Mastering the Personal Recount at Lower Sec programme, students will be taught new skills to strengthen and enrich their personal recounts, namely how to create a personal voice, meaning they will improve in their style of writing and they will go into techniques on how to better add reflections throughout their essay, areas that are not covered in the core programme.

For Mastering the Descriptive Writing at Lower Sec programme, this programme covers aspects of descriptive writing and essay prompts which are unique and different from existing TLL materials. TLL  students will be taught new skills, specifically 4 techniques to strengthen and enrich their descriptive writing.

4. Who would benefit from this programme?

This programme is ideal for students who are already familiar with the basic structure and expectations of the various types of writing that have been covered in schools in Secondary 1 and at TLL but who wish to further improve their writing skills through more advanced techniques. It is also for students who wish to consolidate and apply their existing skills to different topics. In other words, they get more practice as we cover 2 essay topics.

5. Will this programme provide further guidance to students who are weak in a particular area?

Yes. The materials in this programme allow for teachers to customise their teaching to cater to the needs of students (for e.g. if some students are weak in language, the teacher can provide more scaffolding for that micro-writing exercise; if other students are weak in thinking of unique content points, the teacher can focus more on content building).
