Turning Learning into an Adventure: Inside TLL’s Space-Themed Experience

When learning feels like an adventure, it tends to stick.

This year at our East Centres (Marine Parade Central and Tampines Mall), our Primary 4 to 6 students, along with their parents, stepped aboard the spaceship Odyssey for something a little different, a space mission where every challenge was part of a bigger story.

Building on the success of last year’s pirate-themed escape room, this latest experience was open to both our students and their families curious about how learning comes to life at The Learning Lab (TLL), offering a glimpse into how English, maths and science can be explored in a more immersive, hands-on way.

In TLL’s rendition of A Space Odyssey, our participants became crew members aboard the Odyssey, bound for Planet Haven, humanity’s last hope. But mid-journey, the mission took a sudden turn when the ship’s support AI went rogue, locking critical systems and putting everyone on board at risk.

With time running out, the teams raced through different parts of the ship to collect override fragments and regain control. In the final chamber, every decision counted — as they assembled the pieces, powered up a Core Charge and made one last attempt to shut the AI down.

Where Learning Meets Adventure

Through a lineup of interactive activities, students and parents took on subject-based challenges in English, maths and science — each one woven into the storyline and designed to stretch their thinking under pressure. Each task was carefully crafted by The Learning Lab’s academic team to go beyond standard question formats.

A Shared Experience for Students and Parents

Working hand in hand, parents experienced firsthand how advanced many of the concepts in today’s curriculum are. From analysing information to making quick decisions as a team, the challenges offered a glimpse into how students are guided to process, apply and communicate their ideas effectively.

Learning Reimagined

By placing concepts within a fun and immersive context, students were able to see how what they learn connects to real-world problem-solving, making the experience both engaging and memorable.
