3-week countdown

  • Organise your vocabulary booklet (词语手册) into the following sections:
    • Composition writing – separate your helping phrases according to different emotions (情感描写): 怒气、喜悦,、惊讶、伤心、后悔等, different scenarios (情景描写) 火灾、车祸、混乱、捣蛋等, and different techniques(写作技巧) 语言描写、感官描写、心理描写、动作描写、修辞手法等
    • Cloze passages (短文填空) – organize the vocabulary collocations (词语搭配) and required idioms (必备成语)
    • Hanyu pinyin (汉语拼音) and conjunctions (连词介语) – note the important grammar rules (语法)
  • List down your own pitfalls with reminders of how to tackle each one. This includes the words you often write wrongly, especially those with a 1-2 stroke or character radical (边旁部首) difference
  • Read through your old compositions and SRs from the past 2-3 years

2-week countdown

Attempt practice and past PSLE papers, with the following tips in mind:

  • Time management
    • Look over the entire paper at the start of so that you will be mentally prepared and will be able to manage your time properly
    • You should only spend 2 to 3 minutes on each question. If you are stuck on a particular question, move on to the next one first
    • Always answer the easiest questions first
    • Mark questions that you are stuck on with an asterisk. Once you have completed all the other questions, you can attempt these questions again.
    • Always allocate time for checking, and to work on any questions that you may have missed
  • Clue sourcing
    • Always remember to source for and indicate your clues clearly, writing down the question number for each clue

  • Review your vocabulary booklet (词语手册) and consolidate your descriptive phrases
  • Take note of common mistakes that you always make

1 day before the PSLE

  • Spend your time on consolidation and revision of important concepts
  • No more cramming!
  • Get a good night’s sleep to keep a clear mind for the exam day
  • Pack your bag – make sure you have your stationery and necessary identification documents in order
